SLEEP POSITION & PILLOW FIT
Fit the support
to the way you rest.
There is no single pillow shape or sleep position that suits everyone. Aim for comfortable support rather than a rigid “perfect” position. If pain keeps waking you, persists or is getting worse, seek advice rather than repeatedly buying new pillows.
If you sleep on your side.
Try a head pillow that fills the gap between your shoulder and head without tipping your head sharply toward or away from the mattress. Bend the knees slightly if comfortable and try a pillow between them. An ordinary pillow is a useful way to test the idea before buying a specialty shape.
Adjust or remove the support if it creates pressure, heat or a new ache. Follow any position restrictions from your healthcare team.
If you sleep on your back.
Choose head support that keeps your neck comfortable rather than lifting the head far forward. A pillow beneath the knees may make this position more comfortable for the lower back. Change one support at a time so you can notice whether it helps.
If you prefer another position, do not force yourself to stay in one that is uncomfortable. Ask for individualized advice when symptoms or a medical condition affect sleep.
What to compare before buying.
- Height under your head, not just the advertised height when the pillow is unloaded.
- How the material compresses on your mattress and whether it feels comfortable in your usual position.
- Adjustability, a washable cover and clear care instructions.
- The current trial, return and hygiene policy. Check it before ordering; policies can change.
Price, a special shape or a medical-sounding name does not establish that one pillow treats neck or back pain.
